Jonas Dupuich lives in Alameda, CA and grew up in a nursery family. Jonas got his bonsai start over twenty years ago when he met Boon Manakitivipart styling a neglected black pine at his family’s nursery. Jonas spent more than two decades studying with Boon, was a founding member of Bay Island Bonsai (BIB) a premier bonsai club with a cutting-edge quality bonsai exhibit, and the originator of Bonsai Tonight and the Blog. In 2015, Jonas quit his day job and became a full-time bonsai professional. Jonas and Eric Shrader are the creators of the Pacific Bonsai Expo held first in the Fall of 2022 and being held again in 2024 (About – Pacific Bonsai Expo) in the Oakland, California area.
Jonas is well known for refined bonsai and successfully growing bonsai in the ground and quality black pine from seed. His exposed root black pine will be the subject of these workshops for those that wish to pursue growing/developing their own exposed root black pine from the beginning through refinement.
State Fair Workshops with Jonas – Developing Black Pine Exposed Root Bonsai
Two half day sessions on Sunday, Sept 1st and two half day sessions on Monday, Sept 2nd. Morning session from 9am to 12:30pm and afternoon session from 1:30pm to 5pm. The workshops will be held in Hudson, Wisconsin.
The session with Jonas teaching you how to develop the exposed root black pine and discussing basic care of black pine bonsai is $65 for each half day session (MBS fee).
Supplies including nursery sourced 3-year-old black pine seedling, tall heavy duty plastic container, gravel and bonsai soil – $30 (being provided separate from MBS fee).
If you have black pine bonsai in development or other trees you wish to get Jonas’s guidance and wish to attend a workshop with your own tree. Pay the workshop fee and bring your own tree(s).
Refreshments will be provided including water and soda pop of various flavors.
There will be six working spots and six observing spots for each workshop
