David Kuntz
David Kuntz began his bonsai journey over 25 years ago and is a former member of the Minnesota Bonsai Society. Now based in Colorado Springs, David is best known for his work with Rocky Mountain Yamadori, specializing in Ponderosa Pine, Colorado Spruce, Bristlecone Pine, and Douglas Fir.
His broad experience spans many additional species, developed through years of collaboration and study with respected bonsai professionals.

David returns this year to contribute to the auction and lead an immersive, full-day Yamadori Workshop. This hands-on workshop is limited to 12 working participants, offering a rare opportunity to work one-on-one with high-quality collected material. Participants should bring their own tools, wire (copper preferred), and a turntable. The workshop fee is $160 per person, plus the cost of a tree selected in advance from David’s collection. He will also bring extra trees available for purchase by workshop attendees. Trees range from $150–$1,000 and may be viewed and reserved ahead of time through The Jagged Spruce Bonsai website—early selection is strongly encouraged for the best material.
As an observer, you will be able to walk around the room with David, and listen to discussions he has with working members. The observer position offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the care and styling of collected trees and is an extraordinary value!
