Jonas Dupuich runs a Northern California bonsai nursery where he teaches and writes about bonsai. He is the author of the Bonsai Tonight blog, a twice-weekly publication featuring how-to articles and photographs of bonsai around the world. Jonas grows a variety of different species and specializes in developing black pine bonsai from seed. He recently published the book, The Little Book of Bonsai: An Easy Guide to Caring for Your Bonsai Tree, a charming, beautifully photographed beginner’s guide from that covers all the basics to keep bonsai alive and happy

Jonas is a founding member of Bay Island Bonsai and has studied with Boon Manakitivipart for many decades. He has also worked with award-winning Japanese professionals Akio Kondo and Daisaku Nomoto. In 2011, Jonas spent two months immersed in the world of Japanese bonsai studying with fourth-generation bonsai grower and artist Junichiro Tanaka of Aichi-en nursery. During that time, he worked on trees in Tanaka’s collection and participated in various high-level exhibitions including Gomangoku, Meifu-ten, Taikan-ten and Sakufu-ten. His trees have been selected for display in local and regional exhibits, including the US National Bonsai Exhibition.

Jonas now travels across the country doing demos and workshops and is widely respected as an excellent teacher.
