History

1973

The president for 1973 was Milton Gebert.  Vern Weeks served as First Vice President, Virginia Bradley as Secretary, Franklin Petri as Treasurer and Del Schei as Correspondence Secretary.  A new board position was established this year, Mary Wilson served as Librarian.  In March, Vern Weeks gave a presentation on Soil and Soil Mixtures and in April, Vern and Milt brought trees to show and talked about containers.  The May meeting was a Q&A on bonsai-related problems and in June Roy Lindstedt presented Bonsai Related Photography.  At the September meeting, Ken Ellis presented  slides of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and Vern Weeks  showed pictures of the D Hill Nursery Show in Dundee, IL along with 80 slides from BCI with narration.  October featured a presentation by Karen Blees about Native Trees as Bonsai and the November topic was conifers by Del Schei.  The December meeting adjourned early due to bad weather.

1972

The President, in 1972 was Roy Lindstedt. Milton Gebert served as First Vice President, Bob Melstrom as Secretary and Vern Weeks continued as Treasurer. Del Schei served as Correspondence Secretary. In March Milt Gebert gave a presentation on woodworking.  Del Schei presented slides of two bonsai collections in Hawaii at the April meeting.  During the May meeting the members scouted around the YMCA's 17 acre grounds for small bonsai specimens.  In June, everyone brought their own supper and discussed the trees that were brought in.  Vern Weeks showed slides of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in September and in October there was an open discussion of progress and problems with bonsai.  The discussion continued at the November meeting and the year was concluded with the December meeting, using bonsai as Christmas Trees.
