THIRD PLACE

TRINITY MOUNTAIN

Hand-crafted Cherry Wood Dai

Marsden Sperry Collection, USA

COMMENTS FROM SUISEKI JUDGE VITO DI VENERE, ITALY

Trinity Mountain Stone No 15, USA: This stone has a wonderful well known jet black colour preferred by Japanese collectors.  The suiseki represents a surrounding chain of hills gently sloping into a deep central valley.  A beautiful patina unifies the smooth flawless surface while its interesting silhouette is conducive to quiet contemplation for the observer.

ABOUT THE 2009-2010 Photo Competition

Bonsai & Stone Appreciation Magazine has published competition photos in the past:  the Ben Oki International Design Award, Pedro Morales Latin American Bonsai Talent Award, the Certre International Award, the World Bonsai Friendship Federation Photo Contest, and others.  This is the first photo competition to be held by Bonsai Clubs International solely on behalf of its membership, and it is long overdue.  We received 60 bonsai photos and 36 stone photos from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Taiwan, USA and Venezuela.  The BCI Board is very pleased with this response and will hold the competition again in 2011.
